Mechanical engineers work to improve the design, safety and energy efficiency of the machines that support industry and society machines such as CD player, air conditioners, wheelchairs, cars, lifts and aircraft. This degree program is based around a strong core of fundamental studies in engineering science, design, computing and management that will provide graduated with lifelong skills in these discipline.

The objective of the department is to provide a trained man power to industries with a strong foundation of engineering. Emphasis in class room teaching is on industrial applications of Technologies, Actual Process and Efficiency. The department works in close association with industries and provides infrastructural support and consultancy services. The department also promotes collaborative Research and Development on specific industry problems leading to PhD degree. The faculty is involved in research in thrust areas of Power, Machine Design, Solar and Thermal engineering. The faculty has guided / guiding 14 Ph D students.

The academic activities are supported by state of art laboratories like Fluid machinery, Heat & Mass transfer, Energy Conversion, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, I.C engines, Design of Machines etc. The faculty has published more than 100 research papers and articles and completed/ongoing 12 research and development projects funded by government agencies and industries.

It is perhaps the broadest of all engineering disciplines and allows you to choose from the widest possible range of specializations.  [ Click for Course Structure ]

Workshop

Learning is not complete without hands on experience. Technical labs and workshop for giving practical exposure to students are provided within the campus. The central workshop consists of shops in the field of fitting, carpentry, smithy, forging, welding and foundry. The mechanical workshop is equipped with lathes, Drilling machines, Testing machines, Generators, Engines and Digital measuring instruments etc.

Career Opportunities

Mechanical engineering graduates are needed by many industries including power generation, mining, mineral processing, metal and materials production, automobile, conditioning and refrigeration, materials handling and engineering, employment can be in a consultancy, private industry, or government agency dealing with defence, transport or power generation.

Typical professional mechanical engineering positions include engineering design, construction and commissioning of mechanical system, management of operating plant and projects, and supervision and maintenance of manufacturing processes and automated system.
